Environmental Threat To Pregnant Women

Mostly in the farmlands of California and Florida, a pesticide used in strawberry farms to rid us of those nasty pests was banned after research found that it was contributing to the depletion of the ozone.

They replaced it with Methyl Iodide, which poses a more immediate threat to pregnant women and their unborn children.

Many scientists are urging the EPA to remove the pesticide and replace it with a safer chemical, but the debate continues.

You can read more about this issue in the recent article on Treehugger.

okay so you have to add Barbara Kingsolover's new book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle to your earth friendly book list. The basic premise is to eat only food produced in you neighborhood or produced yourself. The argument, aside from the obvious chemicals used today on our food products, is the amount of fuel is used in the simple transportation of produce and food products throughout the world for one. A great read about her family's experience doing just that.
